The herpes virus is a highly contagious virus that is very easily transmitted from person to person either sexually or by other means such as kissing or touching.

Even though some people show very painful symptoms of the virus such as lesions, ulcers, cold sores etc, there are many others who show only the minimal signs and symptoms of the herpes virus. There are also other people who though they have the herpes virus show no symptoms at all.

The herpes virus manifests itself in a variety of ways. If it is a genital herpes virus, then typical symptoms include blisters and ulcers around the anus and the genitals which are very sore and tender.

If the blisters break, they leave very sore and painful ulcers which can take several weeks to heal. Luckily subsequent outbreaks are very rarely as severe as the first outbreak of the herpes virus. The occurrence of outbreaks also appears to decrease as a person gets older. It needs to be remembered though that the herpes virus is still present in the body even though outbreaks of the virus are rare in that particular person.

It is thought a variety of problems can trigger a herpes virus outbreak. This can include both physical and psychological factors such as other infections and diseases, a poor immune system, anxiety, exhaustion, sunlight, damage to the skin and prolonged periods of stress.

It's important that if a person does suffer a virus outbreak they look at the root cause of their particular problem and address any outstanding psychological or physical problems they may be experiencing. It could be they are doing too much either at home or work, they may not be eating properly, or they be recovering from a cold flu or other disease.

They may be emotionally exhausted, suffered a trauma or bereavement. These are all classed as triggers for a herpes virus outbreak and it is up to the person suffering the herpes virus outbreak to basically treat themselves by attacking the problem which has allowed them to succumb to the virus.
